Cal Poly Pomona’s Noel Soto shutout performance has earned him his week’s Baseball Pitcher of the Week award, for the week of April 4-10.
Soto threw a nine-inning complete game shutout on Saturday, leading the Broncos over San Francisco State, 6-0. He was part of the reason for the Broncos’ four-game sweep over the Gators.
The sophomore right-hander yielded just three hits in the gem, allowing just four baserunners. He struck out six batters and walked one and SF State batted just .100 against Soto.
Soto retired the first 15 of 16 batters he faced, including 12 consecutive Gators at one point during the game.
The Lakewood native was the first Bronco to toss a nine-inning shutout since Tim Holdgrafer threw a no-hitter on Feb. 22, 2019.
Cal Poly Pomona, which moved up to fifth place in the CCAA, is now 19-14 overall and 14-9 in conference play. The Broncos travel to Stanislaus State for a four-game set this weekend.
