Cal State Monterey Bay’s Chris Rubottom slugged his way to this week’s CCAA Baseball Player of the Week award, for the week of Feb. 28-March 6.
Rubottom belted three homers — two of them grand slams — as he led the Otters to three wins in the four-game series at Sonoma State. Rubottom went 7-for-17 (.412) for the weekend with a double and three home runs. He accounted for 16 of the team’s runs by scoring five times and drove in 11.
The junior third baseman went 3-for-5 with two dingers while driving in six runs in the opener on Friday. He homered again in the series finale, another grand slam, to collect five more RBIs.
His series slugging percentage was 1.000 with a .412 on-base percentage.
Rubottom, who is from Long Beach, capped a 6-run Otter sixth inning in Sunday’s finale with his second slam in three days. In Friday’s opener, he hit a two-run jack in the second and cleared the bags with a slam in the fifth for CSUMB’s 9-2 win.
Cal State Monterey Bay, which improved to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in CCAA play, hosts Cal Poly Pomona this weekend.
