The Yotes' starting backcourt of Brandon Knapper and Darius Lubom combined for 54 points to lead the No. 1 seed Cal State San Bernardino to a 94-69 win over NO. 5 Cal State Dominguez Hills in the semifinals of the 2022 CCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Brandon Knapper's 34 points led the way as he matched the second-most points ever scored in a single in a CCAA Tournament. He went 13-of-26 from the field and 8-of-14 from behind the arc to register his fourth 30-point game of the season and second in as many games. Knapper was also the Yotes' leading assist man as he dished out nine dimes and had just one turnover. Darius Lubom was an efficient 8-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from 3-point range. Daytone Jennings added 11 points, three assists, and two blocks.
Chris Seeley led the Toros with 27 points (11-of-15) and nine rebounds. Jordan Hilstock came off the bench to register 18 points, and Colton Kresl added 11.
The teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with Cal State San Bernardino taking a one-point lead into halftime (41-40). Just like their game in the regular-season finale against Cal State Monterey Bay, the Yotes came out firing on all cylinders in the second half to run away with the game.
Cal State San Bernardino outscored the Toros in the second half 53-29 after shooting .618 percent from the field and .727 (8-of-11) from 3-point range in the period. After going down double digits (64-51), the Toros managed to cut their deficit to nine (66-57), but the Yotes answered with a 22-9 run over the next seven minutes to seal the victory.
The Yotes finished the game 15-of-23 from behind the arc (.652), and they had assists on 23 of their 38 made baskets.
Cal State San Bernardino will now advance to its first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2010. The Yotes will face the No. 3 seed, Cal State San Marcos, in the Championship game on Saturday, March 5, at 8 p.m.
