After tossing another gem, Cal Poly Pomona ace Will Rudy has earned his second CCAA Pitcher of the Week, this time for the week of March 21-27.

Rudy threw nine shutout innings in Friday’s series opener at Sonoma State before the Broncos erupted for eight runs in the 11th inning to win 8-0.

The freshman from Irvine allowed just one hit and struckout 12 against 28 batters in the outing. He gave up just one walk.

Rudy struck out the side in the first inning and recorded two K’s in three other frames. He sat the first nine batters in order before allowing a single to start the bottom of the fourth. He then retired eight straight before issuing a walk to begin the seventh. He closed out his outing by sitting down the last nine batters he faced before exiting with his pitch count at 115.

Rudy was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 28-March 6 after a stellar performance against Chico State. He fanned 12 in eight innings in Cal Poly Pomona’s 14-0 win.

Rudy, who has not allowed a run in his last 22 innings pitched, leads the CCAA with 59 strikeouts and is second with a 1.77 ERA.

The Broncos, 15-14 overall and 10-9 in CCAA play, have a bye this week and will ost San Francisco State for a four-game set next week.
