Chico State’s Kevin Lyons picked up two wins and the CCAA Pitcher of the Week award for the week of March 14-20.
The sophomore right-hander earned two victories in relief as the Wildcats swept a four-game set from Stanislaus State. The Santa Barbara City College transfer threw a combined six innings, allowing just three hits and one run. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Lyons entered Saturday's second game with the bases loaded and no one out in the fourth inning and Chico State already trailing 2-0. He got out of the jam, allowing just a run-scoring fly ball, to keep Chico State close. They responded in the next half inning with six runs to take the lead and make Lyons (1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB) a winner.
In Sunday's series finale, Lyons logged a season-high five innings after entering the game in the third. He allowed just one run on three hits and retired the final 10 hitters he faced—four via strikeout. With the two wins over the weekend, Lyons improved to 3-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.50.
Chico State leads the CCAA with 12 conference wins and a .800 winning percentage in conference play. The Wildcats will host Cal State San Marcos this weekend in a four-game series.
