After a monstrous weekend, Cal State Dominguez Hills shortstop Scott Ogrin has been picked as the CCAA Baseball Player of the Week, for the week of March 7-13.
Ogrin batted .625 and belted five home runs with at least a dinger in each of the four games as he led the Toros to a four-game sweep over Cal State San Marcos.
Ogrin, a senior from Valencia, went 10-for-16 at the plate with five home runs, drove in 15 runs and scored eight. Ogrin, who bats second in the line-up, posted an on-base percentage of .700 and slugging percentage of 1.563.
He homered in each game against the Cougars, including two in Sunday’s finale. His final bomb was in walk-off fashion, leading CSUDH to the sweep. Four of his RBI hits were go-aheads, including the grand slam in game two, and twice in game four.
In Friday’s opener, Ogrin went 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park homer, walked twice and drove in three runs and scored twice. In Saturday’s twinbill, he combined to go 4-for-8, drove in eight runs with six in the first game as he went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the 17-9 slugfest, in which he also scored twice.
Lastly in the series finale on Sunday, he was 4-for-5, drove in four runs with two home runs. His home run in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie before the walk-off shot in the ninth.
On defense as the shortstop, Ogrin was errorless in 13 chances and was part of three double plays turned by the Toros.
The Toros improved to 14-7 overall and 9-3 in the CCAA, tying for first place with two other teams. They will play at Cal State LA for a four-game set starting on Friday.
