Chico State’s Cody Gentry made an impressive debut as he has received the initial CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week award this season, for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6.

Gentry, a southpaw starting pitcher, struck out 10 batters in five innings of work and earned the win in the Wildcats’ 8-1 win over Saint Martin’s on Saturday. It was during game three of the series and the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday.

Gentry, a sophomore from Concord, allowed just three hits and one run in his outing, his first as a Wildcat.

After giving up a one-out double to the second better he faced, Gentry retired 13 in a row, including nine via strikeout. He faced a total of 18 batters and the Saints batted .167 against him.

Chico State next travels to Fresno to take on Fresno Pacific in a three-game set on Feb. 11 and 12.
