Baseball Player of the Week award goes to Kyle Dobson of Chico State

Chico State’s Kyle Dobson led the Wildcats to a four-game sweep to earn this week’s CCAA Baseball Player of the Week award, for the week of Feb. 21-27.

After not starting in the team’s first five games, Dobson used the opportunities this past weekend in the team’s series sweep over Sonoma State. The designated hitter batted .667, going 8-for-12 with two doubles, a triple and drove in seven runs. Dobson posted a 1.000 slugging percentage with an on-base percentage of .714.

In Friday’s conference opener against the Seawolves, the sophomore from Mission Viejo reached base all four times. He went 3-for-3 with a talk, knocked in three and scored a run in Chico’s 16-6 win. In Saturday’s game one, his RBI triple gave Chico State a 2-1 lead in the fifth and his two-run double made it 4-1 to key the victory. He then collected a hit  in the nightcap and finished out the series with a two-hit game in the finale.

Dobson now leads the CCAA with a .591 batting average (13-for-22), is second in on-base percentage (.615) and third in slugging percentage (.864).

Chico State is now 11-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play with a seven-game winning streak. The Wildcats travel to Cal Poly Pomona for a four-game set this weekend.
