Cal State Monterey Bay right-hander Ryan Platero threw a gem to earn him the honor as this week’s CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of April 21-27.
Platero threw a seven-inning complete game to lead the Otters over Cal State East Bay. It was CSUMB’s first complete game since April 15, 2017.
The sophomore from Hollister allowed just three hits, struck out six and walked one in the gem. The Pioneers batted .130 in 23 at-bats. The strong outing earned CSUMB a Saturday twinbill split.
After allowing two, two-out singles in the fourth inning, Platero retired 10 batters in order to close out the game to preserve the 3-0 win and improved his personal record to 2-0.
Cal State Monterey Bay is now 8-5 overall and 3-1 in CCAA play after winning the series over CSUEB. The Otters travel to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State this weekend.
