Cal State LA's A.J. Salgado picked as CCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Cal State LA freshman A.J. Salgado turned in an all-around offensive effort as he was named the CCAA Baseball Player of the Week for Feb. 14-20.

In four games, the third baseman hit .563, going 9 for 16 with a double, a homer, drove in five and scored five times as the Golden Eagles split against Biola.

Salgado started the series with a 5-for-5 game on Thursday. He drove in four runs and stole two bases despite the LA loss. He then went 2-for-4 on Friday and 2-for-4 in Saturday’s game one before being held hitless in the finale.

His homerun, the first of his collegiate career, came on Saturday, a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Salgado had hit safely in Cal State LA’s first nine games. With a walk in the series finale, he has reached base safely in all 10 games this season.

Cal State LA (5-5) opens CCAA play this Friday at home against Stanislaus State.
