Cal Poly Pomona sophomore Johnny Pappas led the Broncos offense last weekend to earn the CCAA Baseball Player of the Week award, for Feb. 7-13.

Pappas batted .467 with a .867 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage to lead the Broncos to a four-game series split against Montana State-Billings.

The catcher/outfielder from Chino Hills went 7-for-15 with six doubles, drove in four runs, scored six times and drew five walks as the top offensive player for Cal Poly Pomona.

Pappas, the Broncos’ lead-off hitter, started the series with a 3-for-4, two-double game in Thursday’s opener loss. Friday afternoon, in the second game of the series, he again went 3-for-4, this time with three doubles and drove in three runs as Pomona routed MSUB, 15-8. Pappas recovered from a tough game in Saturday’s game one of the twinbill to finish with a 1-for-3, one round game in the series finale 15-1 win.

Defensively, Pappas was behind the dish for three of the four games and did not commit an error with 22 putouts and an assist. He played left field in game one on Saturday.

The Broncos are off until next Tuesday when they host Biola to conclude a 9-game homestand before traveling to Cal State San Bernardino to open CCAA play.
