When Nick Walker gave Cal State Dominguez Hills the lead in the 83rd minute, it looked like the Toros would be advancing to the NCAA Super-Region title match. But a pair of late goals by Northwest Nazarene two minutes apart dashed those dreams, and Cal State Dominguez Hills' season ended with a 3-2 loss to Northwest Nazarene.
CSUDH trailed for the 10-minute mark in the contest. The Toros got the equalizer in the 61st minute on Walker's first goal of the match.
They would take the lead in the 83rd minute after Sulaiman Bah's corner kick connected with the head of David Aguilera. His shot almost wrapped inside the post, but the goalkeeper got a hand on it. The ball momentarily rolled back toward the crowd, and Walker was there to send the loose ball into the net for the go-ahead goal.
The first of NNU's two late goals came in the 88th minute off a free kick near midfield. The nighthawks sent the ball into the box, hoping to create some action. The pass was headed away, but not far enough. It found the foot of Nestor Serrano, who did not hesitate and immediately sent a shot on goal. It caught the defense and the keeper on their heels as it tied the match at 2-2.
The score did not stay there for long, as NNU had another piece of late-game heroics up their sleeves. Jonathan Cardona made a run on the near sideline, taking the ball deep into the Toros' zone. When he was cut off, he sent a cross to the top of the box for Lukas Juodkunaitis, who had again found himself open. Just like the match against Cal State LA, Juodkunaitis did not miss his opportunity late in the match and delivered the game-winning goal for the Nighthawks.
The Toros outshot NNU 23-13 and had 10 corner kicks to Nighthawks' three.
This was just the second loss all season for Cal State Dominguez Hills (15-2-5), who did not suffer its first defeat until the CCAA Tournament Championship.
