Toros advance, two others fall in NCAA Super Regional

#4 Cal State Dominguez Hills 3, #5 Colorado School of Mines 1 [Box score]
Cal State Dominguez Hills earned its first NCAA playoff win since 2017 defeating the Colorado School of Mines 3-1 in Carson.
 
CCAA Offensive Player of the Year Sulaiman Bah put the No. 4 seeded Toros in front in the 21st minute when Michael McKibbin collected a ball in the box and passed it back to an on-rushing Bah for the goal.
 
McKibbin extended the lead to 2-0 two minutes into the second half when he got a foot on a long cross into the box by Martin Velasquez. The Toros tacked on an insurance goal in the 53rd minute. Alpha Sowe and Bah occupied the defense before dishing it off to Jesus Virgen for an open shot at the top of the box.
 
Sebastian Ascencio had three saves in the win. The Ore Diggers' did not score until the 85th minute.
 
CSU Dominguez Hills will face No. 8 seed Northwest Nazarene in the third round of the Super-Regional either next Thursday or Friday (Nov. 17-18).

#8 Northwest Nazarene 2, #1 Cal State LA 1 [Box score]
No. 8 Northwest Nazarene pulled a stunning 2-1 win over top-seeded Cal State LA in the second round of the NCAA Super-Regional on Saturday, Nov. 12.
 
Cal State LA had reached the last two NCAA National Championship matches, but Northwest Nazarene ended that run.
 
The Nighthawks scored first when Jonathan Cardona's corner kick found Lukas Juodkunaitis' foot on the far side of the box, and he immediately sent it into the net.
 
The Golden Eagles tied the match in the 75th minute. Simon Johansen collected the ball at the top of the box following a missed set play and sent in a low pass to Lucas Rosales, who was onside behind most of the scrum. His low shot beat the keeper for the equalizer.
 
Juodkunaitis would come through with another go-ahead goal for the Nighthawks less than a minute later. He was able to dribble through the defense to get within 10 yards of the goal and put the ball just beyond the keeper's reach for the score. 

#3 CSU Pueblo 2, #6 Cal Poly Pomona 1 [Box score
No. 6 seeded Cal Poly Pomona scored 22 seconds into the match, but No. 3 CSU Pueblo answered with two second-half goals to prevail 2-1 in the NCAA Super-Regional.
 
Max Laguna gave the Broncos the lead out of the gate when he deposited a pass from Mads Frederiksen into the back of the net.
 
Cal Poly Pomona maintained its 1-0 lead through halftime, but the ThunderWolves came out with additional energy in the second half. They made multiple runs on goal before breaking through with the match-tying shot in the 60th minute.
 
CSU Pueblo would take its first lead of the match in the 74th minute on a penalty kick by Gabriel Campora.
