PING All-America Teams
NORMAN, Okla. – Matt Pennington of the Cal State San Marcos men's golf team has been named to the 2022 NCAA Division II PING All-America third team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Monday.
Pennington had a standout year for the Cougars as he won the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional Championship, took home the CCAA Championship, was named the CCAA Golfer of the Year and competed at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Earlier in May, Pennington was named to the PING All-West Region team.
The two-time CCAA Golfer of the Week won a program record four tournaments in the 2021-22 season and finished with a national ranking of 26. Over 31 rounds, Pennington averaged the best season score in program history at 71.71 and broke the school record for birdies in a season with 113. His 17 par or less rounds were the second most in team history.
Pennington is just the second CSUSM men's golfer to be named a GCAA PING All-American as Dylan Healey first did so as an honorable mention in 2016.
