Huge Outings for Wissler, Hahn Results in Weekly Acclaim

With one week remaining in the regular-season, Chico State’s Cody Wissler and Stanislaus State’s Kevin Hahn came up in the clutch to earn CCAA Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 22-28, and keep their teams in the playoff picture.

Wildcats’ pinch-hitter extraordinaire, helped the Wildcats move to within a win of clinching a CCAA Tournament berth. The junior transfer from El Camino Community College slugged 1.100, posted an on-base percentage of .909, scored six runs, doubled twice, and drove in four runs in the Wildcats’ five games. Wissler went 4-for-4 as a pinch hitter over Chico State’s first four games of the week and earned a start in Sunday’s series finale. In the start, went 5-for-5 and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the series sweep of rival Sonoma State on Senior Day at Nettleton Stadium.

With the game tied at 6 in the bottom of the ninth, Wissler led off with a single up the middle and stood at third with two out before pinch-hitter Trenton Stowe drove him in for the Wildcats’ second straight walkoff win. Now hitting .429 on the season and slugging .500, Wissler is three straight hits shy of tying the CCAA’s consecutive hits record set by Matt Teahen of UC Riverside March 3–10, 2000, heading into Friday’s doubleheader at San Francisco State.

Kevin Hahn came within two outs of throwing a shutout in a key win during a pivotal series against San Francisco State. The Warriors' fourth starter went 8 1/3 innings and gave up just five hits in the blow out 10-0 win for his best start of the season. The senior from San Mateo struck out six and walked three as the Gators hit just .172 against him. The only time Hahn really got into a jam was the first inning after a leadoff single and a one-out walk. But he got two flyouts to get out of the inning, and after that, allowed just three baserunners until the ninth.

The Warriors have secured a spot in the 2019 CCAA Baseball Tournament with two games to go. Stanislaus State hosts Chico State for a Saturday doubleheader, and before heading to Turlock, the Wildcats will swing through San Francisco to make up a pair of contests against the Gators on Friday.
