A pair of seniors came up clutch for their teams as Cal State San Marcos infielder Grant Buck, and right-handed pitcher Tyler Murphy for Stanislaus State earned CCAA Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 18-24, respectively.

Buck, a native of Carlsbad, hit .467 with seven hits, seven runs, four RBIs, two home runs, one double, three walks, 14 total bases and a sabermetric on-base plus slugging of 1.489, showcasing his overall strength at the plate. This is Buck’s second weekly award of the 2019 season.

In the series opener against Cal State Monterey Bay, Buck finished with  a double, an RBI and a run while going 1-for-4. He went 2-for-4 with a run in the second game before tallying two home runs with three RBIs and three runs in the third game. He closed out the weekend by going 2-for-3 with two runs, two walks and a stolen base as the Cougars and Otters split the series at two games apiece.

Playing for his hometown team of Stanislaus State, Murphy turned in his best start of the season as he shut down the Cal State San Bernardino offense on Saturday. The Turlock native threw seven innings and did not allow a run on four hits. He struck out five while the Coyotes batted just .160 against him as Murphy picked up his third victory of the season. Murphy is the third Stanislaus State pitcher to garner weekly acclaim this year

The Warriors swept the four-game weekend to edge into fourth in the CCAA standings.

Next up, Cal State San Marcos hosts Stanislaus State for four as the current Player and Pitcher of the Week are due to face each other on the diamond. First pitch of the series is slated for Friday at 4 p.m.
