Ott, Wheatcroft Earn CCAA Weekly Awards


Integral cogs in their respective team’s successes over the rainy weekend on the diamond, the senior duo of Cal State San Marcos’ Austin Ott and Stanislaus State’s Chase Wheatcroft have been tabbed as CCAA Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 11-17, respectively.

Ott, hit .438 with seven hits, eight RBIs, two triples, one grand slam, a double, six runs scored and an OPS of 1.438 (.938 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage) in the Cougars' series win over Cal State East Bay. Ott was 1-for-7 with two runs in the first two games of the series, but he made up for it in the final two contests by going 6-for-9 as Cal State San Marcos posted a pair of double-digit scoring performances on the final day of the series against the Pioneers.

In the Cougars 11-10 win, Ott went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and four RBIs. In the series finale, a 13-4 seven-inning affair, Ott was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and two triples. He became just the seventh Cougar in program history to post two triples in a single game.

Wheatcroft posted a save on Monday against Central Washington, then made a start on Sunday at Chico State for a dominating week for the Warriors. Against Central Washington, the senior from Santa Clarita threw an easy 1-2-3 in the ninth with two strikeouts for his third save of the season in three tries. On Sunday at Chico, Wheatcroft shutout the Wildcats for 7 1/3 innings and gave up just five hits as Stanislaus State notched a 2-0 victory.

Next, the Warriors are slated to take on Sonoma State for four in Rohnert Park, while the Cougars play a home-and-home split series against Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend, starting off in Carson.
