Hung P. Tsai was promoted to Director of Championships in July of 2023 after joining the conference office staff as Coordinator of Championships and Media Relations Assistant in August of 2021. This was his second stint with the CCAA as he had previously served the conference as Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations for the 2006-07 academic year.

In his role as the Director of Championships, he oversees all aspects of the conference's postseason tournaments and events, from planning to coordinating with host staffs to writing the championship manuals. 

Tsai has spent over two decades in service to the CCAA and its member-institutions, most recently as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Marketing at Stanislaus State from 2007-2021. In that capacity, he oversaw the marketing of Warrior Athletics, along with game management and day-to-day responsibilities for the 14-sport athletics program. He helped the department establish many of the operational and communications practices during this time, which included a previous stint as sports information Director from 2001-2004.

At Stanislaus State, Tsai played an integral role in coordinating the annual Tournament of Champions softball event, from planning and scheduling the 28-team event, to staffing and statting 73 games over three days on seven fields in Turlock. In his time with the Warriors, there have also been multiple CCAA and NCAA Championship events where Tsai was the lead contact on campus, allowing for successful experiences for all student-athletes, coaches and fans. In all, Tsai was part of hosting 12 CCAA championship events in track & field, cross country, soccer and volleyball. In 2011, he was instruamental to the success of the Division II Track & Field Natioal Championships hosted by CSU Stanislaus.

Previously, Tsai worked at Humboldt State, San Jose State, and ESPN in a variety of athletics administration and sports media relations positions. He was also actively involved with national committees, advisory boards and CoSIDA to help serve others in the profession.

Tsai has been an active member of College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) since 1995. He has attended 18 conventions since 1996 and served on various CSC committees over the years. Tsai was mentored by the late Lawrence Fan, a CSC Hall of Famer and Dan Pambianco (former board member 1995-98).

Tsai received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Humboldt State in 1997, and completed his master’s in kinesiology-sport management at Long Beach State in 2006.

Tsai and his wife, Dr. Stefani Overman-Tsai, who is a professor of theatre at Cal State Northridge, live in Simi Valley. They have two daughters Amelia (b. 2018) and Hazel (b. 2020).
