Elite 13 Award 2021-22

10471The Elite 13 Award, formerly the CCAA Championship Scholar Award, recognizes the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

Instituted in 2017-18, the award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final CCAA championship site in each conference-sponsored sport.

11538Women's Cross Country

7921Brooke Roy earned the Elite 13 award for women's cross country. The junior Kinesiology major from Cal State Monterey Bay represented the Otters in all five races during the 2021 campaign. She was the second finisher on her team in both the CCAA Championships in San Marcos and the NCAA West Regional in Monmouth, Ore. Roy was named the 2018 CCAA Freshman of the Year after placing 22nd in the CCAA Championships to finish as the top placing freshman.

11539Men's Cross Country

6153Trevor Boaz of Cal State San Marcos was the Elite 13 Award winner for men's cross country during the 2021 season. The redshirt sophomore is majoring in Communications. This year, Boaz helped the Cal State San Marcos men's cross country team finish third at the CCAA Championships. Boaz took 50th place. He ran in all six races during the season, including the NCAA West Regional where he posted a career-best time in a 10k (32:18.4).

10398The winner of the Elite 13 Award for women's soccer was Sarah Emigh from Chico State. The senior from Martinez, Calif., is majoring in Nursing and Psychology. She was also a standout for the Wildcats on the pitch earning three All-CCAA and two all-region selections during her tenure. Emigh helped lead the Wildcats finish second during the 2021 season and earn the No. 2 seed in the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

9044Arvine Esteva of the Cal State LA men's soccer team helped lead the Golden Eagles to the 2021 NCAA Championship, winning the CCAA Elite 13 Award along the way. The senior from Palos Verdes who is majoring in International Business saw action during the championship match at defender. He helped the Golden Eagles maintain the shutout and capture the program's first national championship.

9044Shelby Grubbs earned the Elite 13 Award for volleyball for her outstanding work in the classroom. The sophomore Communications major helped the Cal State LA team post a 20-win season and make a run to the NCAA West Regional final appearning in over 70 sets as a middle blocker. Grubbs finished her sophomore season with a .293 hitting percentage and 0.73 blocks per set.

6153Blake Seits of Cal State San Marcos was the Elite 13 Award winner for men's basketball. The the senior guard helped lead Cal State San Marcos to a top 5 ranking and the 2022 CCAA Tournament Championship. Seits was an all-region selection and he was named the MVP of the CCAA Tournament after averaging 21.3 points per game. He already earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administraton - Marketing and he is currently working on his Master's in Business Administration.

6194Delia Moore from Cal State East Bay was selected as the winner of the Elite 13 Award for women's basketball. The senior from Merced helped lead the Pioneers to the CCAA Tournament Championship and earn the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Regional. Moore led Cal State East Bay in scoring with 11.8 points per game. The Kinesiology major won both All-CCAA and all-tournament team honors for the 2021-22 season.

6210Cal State San Bernardino's David Marris claimed the Elite 13 award for men's golf. The junior communications major was the top finisher for the Yotes at the 2022 CCAA Men's Golf Championships. He shot a 69 (-3) in the second round and tied for seventh with a 5-over 221. He helped lead Cal State San Bernardino into the NCAA West Regional and to a victory in the Otter Invitational.

6194Morgan Sjordsma capped off her outstanding three days at the 2022 CCAA Women's Golf Championship by winning the Elite 13 award. The junior from Cal State LA led throughout the tournament to become the first Golden Eagle to ever win the conference title. She is majoring in Mathematics and she will be representing Cal State LA in the NCAA Super Regional.

15035The Elite 13 Award for softball went to Chico State's Amanda Metzger. The senior pyschology major communications major was part of the Chico State pitching staff which led the CCAA and ranked 26th in the country with a 2.08 earned run average. She helped Chico State earn the No. 2 seed in the CCAA Tournament and claim an at-large bid to the NCAA West Regional. It was the Wildcats sixth consecutive appearance in the regional.

15042Women's Track & Field

15038Cal Poly Pomona's sprinter Analexis Glaude collected the CCAA Elite 13 Award for women's track & field. The third-year student-athlete competed at the CCAA Championships for the Broncos in the 200m, 400m, and the 4x400m relay. The Psychology major helped the relay team win its events, and Glaude collected five points as an individual to help Cal Poly Pomona earn its first CCAA Track & Field Championship since 1998.

15039Cal Poly Humboldt's decathlete Travis Allen was voted men's track & field Elite 13 Award winner. The junior from San Diego placed third in the decathlete at the 2022 CCAA Track & Field Championships with 5,545 points, his top mark of the season. He set personal-bests in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and decathlon this season. Allen is majoring in Psychology at Cal Poly Humboldt.

15041Baseball

15038­­­Ryon Knowles was a standout for Cal Poly Pomona on the diamond and in the classroom during the 2021-22 campaign. The second baseman was named to both All-West Region first teams after batting .368 on the season. Knowles ranked third in the CCAA in hits (74), fifth in runs scored (57), and 10th in RBI (47). The Corona, Calif. native is earned his undergraduate degree in Criminology, and his is now working towards his master's in Business Administration.
