HAYWARD, Calif. - For the first time in program history, the Cal State East Bay Pioneers are hoisting the NCAA West Region Championship trophy.

The No. 1-seeded Pioneers (33-0) used a strong second half and a disruptive defensive effort to defeat No. 3 seed Point Loma, 73–58, on Monday night at Pioneer Gym.

Tyree Campbell led Cal State East Bay with 20 points, knocking down three 3-pointers while adding six rebounds and three steals. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the West Regional. Amare Campbell added 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jaayden Bush and Jalen Foy each chipped in with 11 points. Bush also had six rebounds and three steals.

Andrew Nagy paced Point Loma with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jaden Matingou added 13 points, and Tyce Paulsen and Caden Harris each scored 11.

Point Loma (27-6) was not intimidated by the loud crowd at Pioneer Gym and built an eight-point lead midway through the first half (20-12). CSUEB chipped away at the lead, and the momentum shifted to the Pioneers' bench when Tyree Campbell had a steal followed by a breakaway dunk with five minutes left in the half. A 3-pointer by Campbell late in the half gave the Pioneers the lead, but PLNU would go into the locker room leading 31-30.

The Pioneers opened the period with increased defensive intensity and better offensive rhythm. CSUEB began the second half on a 15-4 run and would never give up the lead. PLNU would cut its deficit to one (49-48) with nine minutes remaining, but CSUEB answered with five quick points, and the Sea Lions never got that close again.

The Pioneers (33-0), who remain as the only unbeaten in the NCAA, forced 24 turnovers and generated 31 points off those miscues. CSUEB also capitalized in transition, scoring 29 fast-break points compared to just nine for Point Loma.

Cal State East Bay's season will continue at the Elite Eight. Game time and opponent will be announced in the next few days.
