Sterling McClanahan from UC Merced has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1. 

McClanahan put together one of the best weeks in the CCAA this season as he became the first student-athlete all season to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games. The junior guard averaged 32.0 points per game on .629 percent shooting (22-of-35). He went 9-of-15 from behind the arc and 11-of-13 from the free throw line. McClanahan added 12 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. 

The native of Fairfield, Calif., opened the week by scoring 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting at Cal State Monterey Bay. He hit four 3-pointers and also grabbed a career-best eight rebounds. McClanahan followed that up with 34 points at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday. He went 12-of-17 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range to match the highest scoring output in the CCAA this season. 

McClanahan is the first Bobcat with 34 points in a conference game since 2013, and he is one of only three UCM student-athletes to post at least 34 points in a conference game. He is also the first CCAA student-athlete with back-to-back 30-point games on the road since Chico State’s Jojo Murphy in 2022.

These performances moved McClanahan to third place on the CCAA leaderboard with 16.8 points per game. He ranks fourth in 3-pointers made per game (2.2) and fifth in free throw percentage (.846). Click here to see the list of CCAA Stat Leaders.
