Historic double-double leads UC Merced’s Elijah Charles to FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week honors

UC Merced’s Elijah Charles has been voted the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 16-22.

Charles scored 36 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to register the first 35-point, 15-rebound game in the CCAA since 2015-16, leading the Bobcats to an 86-69 win over Cal State LA. He went 14-of-19 from the field (.737%) and 8-of-9 at the free throw line (.889%). He scored 26 of his 36 points in the first half en route to posting the second-highest scoring output in the CCAA this season. The 16 rebounds are also the second-highest this season. 

Charles would add 12 points and eight rebounds in a narrow 78-75 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills. He averaged 24.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks to earn his first career CCAA Player of the Week award. 

The senior from Los Angeles leads the CCAA in rebounds (9.9) by two per game, and the entire West Region with a .645 shooting percentage. He is also fifth in the CCAA in scoring (16.3) and fourth in blocks (1.1). Click here to see the list of CCAA Stat Leaders
