Chico State’s Sergio Cuartas III collects first career FloCollege/CCAA Runner of the Week award

Chico State’s Sergio Cuartas III has been selected as the Flo/College CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 22-28.

Cuartas III placed fourth at the Mike Johnson Cross Country Classic and led the Chico State men’s team to a victory. Cuartas III posted a time of 23:57.6 on the 8k Ash Creek Preserve course, which will be the site of the 2025 NCAA West Regional. The only runners in front of him were a trio from Northwest Nazarene. 

Cuartas III was one of five Chico State runners to place in the top 9. The Wildcats posted 34 points to finish in front of NNU, 34-40.

Chico State will skip competing this weekend before returning to action in a split-squad situation on Oct. 10 and 11. The Wildcats will send some members to the SF State Invitational on Oct. 10 and some to the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill., on Oct. 11.
