Stanislaus State’s goalkeeper, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez, has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week after helping the No. 2 nationally ranked Warriors continue their shutout streak.
The Warriors opened the week with a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Menlo College on Thursday, September 18, starting with their first shutout of the week.
Ruiz-Hernandez recorded his third clean sheet of the season on Saturday with three key saves in a 1-0 road win over Dominican, giving Stanislaus their sixth consecutive win and fourth straight shutout to close non-conference play.
The senior goalkeeper posted a perfect 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals-against average this week. He currently leads the CCAA in goals-against average (.337) and save percentage (.895).
The Warriors’ 6-0 start is their best since 2015, when they opened the season 7-0, and has Stanislaus State sitting second in the CCAA standings with 15 goals. The team is scheduled to open conference play at Warrior Stadium against Cal State East Bay on Friday, October 3, at 4:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
