Makeila Yancey of Stanislaus State has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 8-14.
Yancey played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ back-to-back shutout wins last week as Stan State went 1-0-1, including a scoreless draw against No. 14 ranked Hawaii Hilo. In the stalemate against the Vulcans on Wednesday, the Yancey’s led backline limited opponents to just five shot attempts and only two on goal. The Warriors kept the Vulcans from any corner kick attempts.
In the 1-0 win over Menlo on Saturday, Yancey, a senior defender from Brentwood, Calif., and the Warriors held the Oaks to just five shots on goal to preserve Stan State’s third shutout of the season.
This is Yancey’s second career CCAA athlete of the week award. She claimed the honor last Oct. 29 after leading the Warriors to two shutouts at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. Click here for history of CCAA Player of the Week awards.
Stanislaus State has a single match on the road next week with a contest at Biola on Saturday, Sept. 20.
