The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced its all-conference men’s golf team and individual award winners for the 2024-25 season.
Cal State Monterey Bay’s
Simon Björken was voted the CCAA Golfer of the Year. Newcomer of the Year honors went to
Giuseppe Aliotti of Chico State, and Cal State San Bernardino’s
Tyler Price was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Cal State East Bay’s
Alan Sue earned Coach of the Year honors.
Simon Björken caps off a decorated and successful career by winning CCAA Player of the Year. The senior from Hudiksval, Sweden, is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the West Region with a 71.2 adjusted scoring average. He shared the tournament title at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational with a 5-under par 211. Björken has finished at par or better in seven of the 10 tournaments and has five top 10 finishes. In his career, Björken has been voted the CCAA Newcomer of the Year, won the CCAA Individual title, and led CSUMB to a CCAA Championship. Björken is only the second Otter to win CCAA Golfer of the Year honors, joining two-time winner Elis Svard (2018 & 2020).
Giuseppe Aliotti only suited up for Chico State in five tournaments, but his contributions were felt immediately conference-wide. The junior transfer from Fresno City College averages 73.8 strokes per round and ranks 42nd in the West Region. He had two rounds under par as he went 3-under at the RJGA Men’s Palm Valley Classic and the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational. Aliotti is the seventh Wildcat to earn this award, and the first since Myoung Kim in 2020.
Cal State San Bernardino’s
Tyler Price is the 2024-25 CCAA Freshman of the Year. Price played as high as the No. 2 spot for the Coyotes and averaged 74.3 strokes per round. He shot par or better in two tournaments, with his best finish coming at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational (fifth). Price is the third CSUSB student-athlete to win CCAA Freshman of the Year honors, and the first since 2011.
Alan Sue led Cal State East Bay to its first CCAA Championship since 2016, and just the second in program history. He has guided the Pioneers to the No. 1 spot in the West Region and a No. 17 national ranking. CSUEB won five events in 2024-25, including its first three events of the year. As a team, the Pioneers finished under par in eight of 12 tournaments and collected eight top 3 finishes. Sue also helped guide Cooper Groshart to the 2025 CCAA Individual Championship as he became only the second Pioneer to take home that title.
Seven of the eight schools that sponsor men’s golf were represented on the 10-person All-CCAA team. Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Cal State East Bay each had two selections.
Wilhelm Berg Von Linde joined Björken as a repeat selection for the Otters.
Oscar Blomqvist and
Easton Hether represented Cal State East Bay.
Travis Miller and
Naoki Easterday gave Chico State two selections.
This was the fourth consecutive year Björken has received all-conference honors. It has happened only four times in CCAA history. Hether and Cal State San Bernardino’s
John Kim collected All-CCAA honors for the third straight season. Stanislaus State’s
Chris Chomyn was voted All-CCAA for the second consecutive year.
Jonah Camarillo (Cal State Dominguez Hills) and
Ivan Sablan (Sonoma State) complete the All-CCAA list.
The CCAA will send seven teams and one individual to the NCAA West/South Central Regional in Riverside, Calif., on May 9-11 for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships in Palm Beach, Fla. (May 19-23).
