Sonoma State’s Avery Foster has earned this week’s FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week award after capturing a victory in Arizona.
At the Ventana Canyon Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., Foster was consistent with two rounds of 76’s to win individual medalist honors at the WT Desert Invite, hosted by West Texas A&M. The junior from Clovis 152 tournament total was one stroke better than three other players, including Cal State San Marco’s Kiara Hernandez.
As a team, the Seawolves finished tied for fourth behind Foster’s efforts. Sonoma State shot a team score of 640, two behind West Texas A&M and CSUSM. St. Mary’s (Texas) won with a 629 team tally.
Foster trailed leader Hernandez by three strokes after the first round but turned in another four-over par 76 on Tuesday for the win while Hernandez was plus-eight. Foster tied for the tournament lead with seven birdies.
