Evan Oliver scored 18 points, dished out 12 assists, and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the No. 3 seed Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball team to a 98-83 win over No. 6 seed Cal State LA in the first round of the 2025 CCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
CSUSB finished the game shooting .603 percent from the field and .609 percent from 3-point range.
Charlie Henderson was 10-for-14 and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to lead all scorers with 28 points.
Andrew Henderson made 6-of-8 attempts from long range (9-of-13 overall) and finished with 25 points.
Nic Welp joined Oliver with a double-double as he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Oliver's 12 assists matched the CCAA Tournament record set by the Coyotes'
Devin Montgomery in 2009.
Corey Cofield II paced Cal State LA with 23 points and nine rebounds.
Shane Bell reached the 20-point plateau as he went 9-of-14 from the field to score 22 points.
Dominic Escobar (16) and
Jaden Lazo (12) were also in double-figures for the Golden Eagles.
?The Coyotes started the game on fire, hitting seven of their first eight shots to build a 24-7 lead seven minutes into the game. Cal State LA cut the deficit to single-digits late in the half and trailed 46-36 at halftime.
The lead would remain in double-figures for the start of the second half until a Lazo 3-pointer and a layup by Cofield II cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to seven at 67-60.
The Coyotes would answer with 3-pointers on their next three possessions to push the lead back to 11 (76-65). The Golden Eagles would cut it to eight points again but never got any closer.
Cal State San Bernardino will advance to the 2025 CCAA Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals, where it will face No. 2 Chico State at 2:30 p.m.
