SAN DIEGO – No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills outscored No. 6 seed Central Washington by 11 points in the second half to earn a 77-65 win and advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship game.
 
David Cheatom led CSUDH with 20 points and 10 rebounds. It matched his season-high for rebounds and was just his second double-double. Jeremy Dent-Smith added 17 points, five assists, and three steals. Alex Garcia had 15 points and seven rebounds.
 
It was the rebounding that was the key to victory for Dominguez Hills. It outrebounded CWU 44-25 and outscored them 21-4 on second-chance points. Six Toros recorded at least four rebounds, with DJ Guest coming off the bench to record seven boards, including three on the offensive glass.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills took the lead at 24-23 on a putback by Jordan Hilstock. They would use that play to go on a 15-1 run and take a 12-point lead (36-24). CWU answered by scoring the last 11 points of the half to cut the Toros' halftime lead to one (36-35).
 
A Cheatom layup out of the break extended the lead back to three, and the teams traded baskets until Jordan Clark cut CSUDH's advantage to two (40-38) at the 17-minute mark. The Toros would put together another impressive run as they outscored the Wildcats 17-5 over the next nine minutes to open a 14-point lead (57-43) with eight minutes left. CWU would not get closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
 
GNAC Player of the Year Calvin Holden led Central Washington with 16 points and six assists. Three others joined him in double-figures, including Mitch Brizee with 14, Bradley Swillie with 11, and Garrett Anderson with 10.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance to play the No. 1 seed Point Loma in the NCAA West Regional Championship game on Monday, Mar. 17, at 7 p.m.
