Cal Poly Humboldt’s Rob Diaz III named FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Rob Diaz III has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2. 

Diaz led Cal Poly Humboldt to a pair of road wins as the Lumberjacks won five consecutive conference games for the first time since 2015-16. The reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year averaged 21.5 points per game, shooting .667 percent from the field (18-of-27) and .600 percent from long range (6-of-10). He also added averages of 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. 

On Thursday, Diaz posted 16 points and two steals as Humboldt took down Cal Poly Pomona 57-55. It was the Lumberjacks’ first win over the Broncos since 2018, and it snapped an 11-game losing streak to CPP.

Diaz only got better on Saturday night, dropping 27 points with seven assists against the defending conference champions, Cal State San Bernardino, on their home court. Diaz went 11-for-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, as Humboldt earned its first season series sweep of CSUSB since 2015-16 and their first road win at Coussoulis since 2017. 

Cal Poly Humboldt now sits in sole possession of fourth place in the CCAA standings at 8-6 (12-7 overall). Last season, Cal Poly Humboldt finished at the bottom of the CCAA standings at 3-19, and they have already doubled last season’s win total (6-21 overall in 2023-24).

Diaz leads the CCAA with a .539 field goal percentage and is fifth in scoring with 16.5 points per game. Click here to see CCAA Statistics Leaders.
