Stanislaus State's Chris Chomyn and
Jack Peters shared the individual title at the Battle in the Desert tournament, and they will share this week's FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week honors.
The seniors tied for first place at the tournament in Borrego Springs with 9-under 207s. Peters led through the first two rounds before Choymn stormed back in the final round to force a playoff. Peters would win the three-hole playoff by recording a birdie on the final hole of the par-72 Rams Hill Golf Course.
The duo helped Stan State finish second at the three-day tournament with a school-record 26-under par, 838. The Warriors were within four strokes of first-place No. 12 ranked Georgia Southwestern and 26 strokes ahead of third-place No. 27 UT-Tyler.
Peters opened the tournament by posting back-to-back 67s (-5). After the first round, he was tied for third, and after the second round, he was tied for first. The native of Visalia, Calif., registered a 73 (+1) in the finals. He finished tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring (-10) and second in birdies (17).
Choymn shot 1-under 71 in the first round and chased the leaders the rest of the way until the final hole. He followed up with a 66 (-6) in the second round to move into a tie for seventh. In the final round, the Irvine native shot a 70 (-2) finish with a 207 (-9). Choymn matched Peters on the par-5 scoring at 10-under par, and he recorded two eagles.
