The 2025 season will long be remembered for Stanislaus State men's soccer. It posted the program's best winning percentage (17-1-2), Stan State won the CCAA Tournament Championship, reached No. 1 in the national rankings, and the Warriors did all this after being picked eighth in the CCAA preseason coaches poll.
However, all great runs must come to an end, and the magical season would come to a close on Sunday when No. 1 seed Stan State fell to No. 4 Midwestern State 2-0 in the semifinals of the NCAA Super Regional 4.
The Mustangs put the first goal of the match on the board in the 44th minute when Dereck Espinal found Gabriel Gacovicaj for the score.
Stan State would create some chances in the second half, but Midwestern State's defense stood firm and allowed only one shot on goal.
The Warriors push for the equalizer right up to the last minute. That led to Angel Ruiz-Hernandez pushing forward late, giving Espinal the look at an empty net for the Mustangs' second goal.
Ruiz-Hernandez finished with four saves, and Stan State was outshot 13-7.
Midwestern State will advance to the finals of the NCAA Super Regional 4, where it will face Point Loma on Saturday, Dec. 6.
