Kyla Okamoto of Cal Poly Humboldt has snagged the FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award, for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2,
Okamoto led the Lumberjacks to two shutouts while scoring a goal as Humboldt went 1-0-1 with four points in the standings to stay in the hunt for a CCAA Soccer Tournament berth. The Jacks tied UC Merced in a scoreless draw on Friday before a 3-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
The freshman defender from Mililani, Hawai’i, played in all but five minutes in two matches to lead the Humboldt backline, which allowed just five shots on goals. Okamoto scored Sunday's first goal — the eventual game-winner — on a header from a corner kick.
