The No. 1 seed, Stanislaus State, defeated the No. 9 seed, Hawaii Hilo. 2-0, to earn the program's first NCAA Tournament win since 2012.
Emmanuel Duran put the Warriors up 1-0 in the 24th minute on his 10th goal of the season. It was a beautiful first goal for Stan State as Jose Ponce found Samuel Villanueva along the left side, and Villanueva dished it into the middle of the box to a cutting Duran for the shot.
Villaneuva would also assist on Stan State's second goal when he found Sebastian Carbajal open with a low cross in front of the net. These would be the only two shots on goal for the Warriors in the match.
Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made three saves to secure the shutout and the victory.
Stanislaus State advances to the third round, where it will face the No. 4 seed Midwestern State on Sunday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m.
No. 10 UC Colorado Springs 3, No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills 1
The No. 10 seed, UCCS Mountain Lions, scored three goals in seven minutes to upset No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-1.
The Toros grabbed the lead first on Aldair Marta's goal in the 14th minute. Christian Briseno and Ramiro Rosas assisted on the goal. They held the lead into halftime and 15 minutes into the second half before the Mountain Lions exploded for three scores.
Nick Walker scored the first in the 61st minute. Rory Scott would connect on the next two in the 63rd and 68th minutes. Those would be the only three shots on goal UCCS would have in the second half, and they finished with just four shots on goal in the match.
Cal State Dominguez Hills dominated most of the stats in the box score, outshooting UCCS 25-12 and 10-1 on corners.
UCCS will now advance to play at Point Loma on Saturday, Nov. 29. The loss ends the season for the Toros at 12-3-4.
No. 3 Point Loma 2, No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino 2 (PLNU wins in PKs, 3-2)
Cal State San Bernardino found the equalizer on Anthony Morales' goal with 62 seconds left in the match as the Coyotes went on the road and attempted to upset the No. 3 seed Point Loma.
That goal by Morales sent the match to overtime tied at 2-2, where the teams played two scoreless periods, and it went to penalty kicks to determine who would advance to the third round.
In the shootout, CSUSB missed its first two attempts, while PLNU made its first two, putting the Coyotes in a deep hole. The teams traded makes in the third round. CSUSB then got a glimmer of hope in the fourth as Anthony Luna made his shot, and PLNU missed theirs. However, the Coyotes' attempt in the fifth round sailed high and sealed the win for the Sea Lions.
PLNU will now host UCCS in the third round on Saturday, Nov. 29. The loss ends the season for CSUSB at 9-3-8.
