Pedersen's 28 kills leads CSUSB to its seventh CCAA Tournament Final in nine seasons

TURLOCK, Calif. - For the seventh time in nine seasons, Cal State San Bernardino is advancing to the finals of the CCAA Volleyball Tournament presented by Under Armour. The No. 2-seeded Coyotes punched their latest ticket with a four-set win over No. 6 seed Cal State East Bay in the semifinals, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-16.
 
Kacie Pedersen posted 28 kills and a .356 hitting percentage to lead an offensive attack for CSUSB, which outhit CSUEB by over 100 points (.259 to .148). Pedersen added 18 digs to post her 12th double-double of the season. Savannah Hoffmann added 13 kills, and Allison Legates added eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
 
Setter Makenna Edwards dished out 45 assists, a season-best for a four-set match, while adding 12 digs and two service aces. Jayden Chornomud led the Coyotes with a match-best 26 digs.
 
Barakat Adekola's 15 kills paced Cal State East Bay for the second consecutive tournament match. She also led the team with 14 digs to register her 16th double-double. Adekola was one of five Pioneers who posted double-figure digs. Malayah Adams added 12 kills, Pi'ilani Carvalho had 36 assists, and Kale'a Kuamo'o registered three aces and 11 digs.
 
After Cal State San Bernardino went up two sets, Cal State East Bay put together its best set with a .295 hitting percentage and 17 kills. The set was tied at 20-20, and the Pioneers prevailed down the stretch, and Adams capped off the set win with a kill.
 
The Pioneers took the momentum from their third set and jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the fourth set. CSUSB's coach, Kim Cherniss, then took a timeout to regroup the team with what she described as "grandmotherly words of wisdom." From that point, the Coyotes outscored the Pioneers 20-7 to close out the set and secure the match. Pedersen had six of her 28 kills in the run.
