Chico State's Weston Joyner Named FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week

Chico State goalkeeper Weston Joyner earned FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week honors following the Wildcats’ opening weekend of conference play at University Soccer Stadium.

Joyner’s presence in goal helped Chico State open conference play unbeaten, totaling 11 saves across two matches while allowing just one goal. His performance earned a draw against Cal State Dominguez Hills and a shutout win over Cal State San Marcos.

In Friday’s matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Joyner anchored the Wildcats’ defense in a 1-1 draw, turning away five second-half shots and finishing the match with seven total saves and just one goal allowed.

On Sunday against Cal State San Marcos, Joyner secured a clean sheet in Chico State’s 1-0 win. The Cougars fired 15 shots, but Joyner stood tall with four saves.

Through the first week of conference play, Joyner ranks third in the CCAA in shutouts (2) and fourth in goals-against average (1.103). Click here to see the complete CCAA stats leaders.

The Wildcats will face Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:00 p.m. in Pomona, Calif., at Kellogg Stadium. They will then travel to take on Cal State LA on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:00 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif., at University Stadium. Both matches will be available to watch on FloCollege.
