Cal State Monterey Bay midfielder Eric Vazquez-Acosta has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
This past week, Vazquez-Acosta delivered in key moments for the Otters, scoring late equalizers in both matches to help Cal State Monterey Bay earn draws against nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
In the first match against No. 11 Cal Poly Pomona, the Broncos took an early lead in the ninth minute. But with under a minute remaining, Vazquez-Acosta came through in the clutch, scoring the equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw. The Otters snapped a decade-long drought against Pomona, earning their first point since 2013.
In Sunday’s 2-2 tie against No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino, Vazquez-Acosta scored the equalizer in the 84th minute. The play began with Ramiro Corrales, Jr. delivering a corner kick to the far post, where
Damon Smith headed the ball across to Vazquez-Acosta for the finish.
The Otters dominated offensively, outshooting the Yotes 20-8 with eight shots on goal. Vazquez-Acosta paced the team, recording three shots, two on goal, and the match’s decisive score. Vazquez-Acosta currently ranks tied for third in the CCAA in points per game (1.29) and tied for second in goals (4). Click here to see the complete CCAA stats leaders

Up next, CSU Monterey Bay will travel south to take on Cal State LA on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:30 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif. Later this week, the Otters will stay in Southern California to face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:00 p.m. in Carson, Calif.
