For the second consecutive week, Cal Poly Pomona’s Vivian Martinez has earned the honor as FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Running much closer to campus this time, Martinez clocked 21:36.8 to finish second at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, leading the Broncos to a team title out of 20 teams on Saturday. The 6,000-meter race was held on campus and finished at Strehl Track.
The senior from Los Angeles finished four seconds behind winner Suzie Johnson of The Master’s, the No. 6 ranked team in the NAIA. Johnson is a five-time All-American and a 2024 indoor champion as part of the Mustang’s relay team.
The annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational also featured a number of CCAA and PacWest programs, as well as DIII teams from Southern California and a couple of Division I JV squads.
Cal Poly Pomona, ranked No. 29 in the latest USTFCCCA poll, took home the team with its top five finishers in the top 15.
Last week, Martinez claimed the Runner of the Week award after an impressive showing in Kenosha, Wisc., at the site of the 2025 NCAA Championships.
