Record-breaking performance propels Broncos’ Sarah Ybarra to FloCollege/CCAA Offensive Player of the Week honors

Cal Poly Pomona’s Sarah Ybarra has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. (Oct. 14). 

Ybarra had one of the greatest single-match performances in CCAA history on Saturday, recording 45 kills to break the CPP single-match record, tie the CCAA record, and log the fifth-most kills in a match in NCAA Division II history. It is the first time a DII student-athlete has recorded 45 kills in a match since 2004, and the first time it has ever happened under the current rally scoring format. 

The junior opposite side hitter averaged 7.13 kills, 2.75 digs, and 7.69 points per set in a pair of Broncos’ wins. She recorded two double-doubles and led CPP to its eighth consecutive win. 

Ybarra continues to lead the CCAA and rank third in NCAA Division II with 4.87 kills per set. She is also second in the conference in hitting percentage (.308) and fifth in digs per set (3.47). Click here to see the complete CCAA leaderboard

Cal Poly Pomona will face a pair of road challenges this week. The Broncos will face fellow undefeated CCAA team, Cal State LA (8-0), on Friday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. This will also be this week’s CCAA on FloCollege Game of the Week, as the two teams battle for sole possession of first place. CPP will then go to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Oct. 18. Both matches will be available on FloCollege.
