Jeremy Dent-Smith wins FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as Toros run winning streak to 11

Jeremy Dent-Smith averaged 27 points per game (ppg) to claim the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award for Jan. 13-19. 

The junior guard led the Toros to two home victories and surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone in only his third season. 

During Saturday's win over San Francisco State, Dent-Smith scored 25 points by going 8-of-14 from the field (.571 percent), 4-of-5 from 3-point range, and 5-of-7 from the foul line (.714). He added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals while securing the win for the Toros from the foul line in the closing minutes.

Two nights before, in the Toros' win over Cal State East Bay, Dent-Smith again had the hot hand pouring in 29 points, going 9-of-20 from the field, 4-of-12 from behind the arc, 7-of-9 from the foul line. Dent-Smith also had six assists, four rebounds, four steals, and a block.

On the weekend, Dent-Smith shot 50 percent from the field (17-of-34), 47 percent on 3-pointers (8-of-17), and 75 percent at the free throw line (12-of-16). He posted averages of 27.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and a block. 

Dent-Smith sits second in the CCAA in scoring with 18.8 ppg and 10th with 3.1 assists per game. Click here to see CCAA Statistics Leaders.

Cal State Dominguez Hills won its 11th straight victory and remain undefeated in CCAA play at 10-0. The Toros travel to Chico State on Thursday for a showdown as the CCAA’s two undefeated teams battle it out for sole possession of first place.
