36-point performance leads Toros’ David Cheatom to FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week honors

David Cheatom of Cal State Dominguez Hills has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12. 

Cheatom averaged 24.5 points per game on 77 percent shooting to help lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a pair of road victories and extend their winning streak to 10 games. He posted 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and a steal per game while going 20-of-26 from the field and 3-of-4 on 3-pointers. 

In Saturday’s four-point win at Sonoma State, the grad student erupted for 36 points on 14-of-17 shooting. The 36 points and 14 made field goals are the most in CCAA play this season. He was 3-of-4 from behind the arc and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. He also had four rebounds and four assists. 

Cheatom also had a hot hand in the Toros’ 18-point win over Cal State San Marcos on Thursday night. He went 6-of-9 from the field and finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

This is Cheatom’s first career CCAA Player of the Week award and the third for CSUDH this season. Cheatom is the first Toro other than Jeremy Dent-Smith to win the award since DJ Guest in Feb. 2023. Click here to see a complete list of past CCAA Players of the Week

Cal State Dominguez Hills will put its perfect conference record (8-0) on the line this weekend when it hosts Cal State East Bay (Jan. 16) and San Francisco State (Jan. 18). The Toros are currently tied for first place with Chico State.
