Evan Franco of Cal Poly Pomona has been named this season’s first CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

At the CSUSB Coyotes Challenge on Saturday, Franco crossed the finish line first in a time of 25:21.6, in the 8K run on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. The senior from San Jose led the Broncos to the team victory, ahead of University of Redlands, 18-50, as seven Broncos finished in the top 10.

Franco edged out teammate Leandro Candray, a two-time returning All-Region runner who finished sixth at the CCAA Championships last season. Candray came in at 25:25.8. Franco’s early-season time of 21:25.6, which is a 5:06 average mile pace, would have placed him in the top 15 at the 2023 CCAA Championships.

Cal Poly Pomona will be at the UCR Invitational on Sept. 21 at the UCR Ags Ops Course on the campus of UC Riverside.
