Cal Poly Pomona’s Liberty Ortiz wins second career Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award

Liberty Ortiz of Cal Poly Pomona has been named the CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Broncos to two more victories last week.

Ortiz led the CPP defense while helping on two goals as the No. 7 ranked Broncos posted two wins on the road in Colorado against RMAC squads. Cal Poly Pomona blasted CSU Pueblo, 6-2, on Friday before shutting out MSU Denver, 3-0, on Sunday to stay perfect at 6-0.

Ortiz played 166 minutes on defense, which allowed just 16 shots (11 on frame) in the two matches. The shutout is already Pomona’s fourth of the season and in six matches, the Broncos have only allowed three goals. The junior from Chino Hills assisted on two goals during Friday’s match in Pueblo. This is Ortiz’s second CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award. She earned this honor on Oct. 25, 2022.

Cal Poly Pomona will take on Cal State San Bernardino in a non-conference match on Saturday in San Bernardino before the CCAA season begins next week.
