Taesja Paopao of Cal State LA snags Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor

Cal State LA goalkeeper Taesja Paopao has been tabbed as the Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 9-15.

Paopao recorded 11 saves in two matches, including a brilliant match against defending national champion Point Loma on Saturday. In a 1-0 shutout of Vanguard last Wednesday, she picked up five saves before adding six more in the 1-1 draw versus No. 1 Point Loma.

The senior from Oceanside, Calif., faced 16 shots with seven on goal against the Sea Lions offense. Paopao helped Cal State LA navigate five first-half Point Loma corner kicks.

Paopao now ranks fourth in the CCAA in goals against average (.750) and is tied for second with two shutouts. Her 4.75 saves per game is third best. Click here to see the complete CCAA stats leaders

Cal State LA takes its 2-0-2 unbeaten record to Biola on Wednesday for its final non-conference match.
