Damian Garcia of Chico State has picked up this week’s CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor after leading the team to a perfect finish.

The junior runner returned home to compete at the Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State, to finish as the top collegiate finisher. The meet was held at Ceres’ River Oaks Golf Course, near Garcia’s hometown of Turlock.

Garcia clocked in at 23:23.3 in the 8K race to finish second overall, behind only former Warrior Ero Doce, now of Peninsula Distance Club. Garcia led a pack of seven Wildcats for consecutive finishes behind Doce, who won in 23:20.5.

Chico State, ranked No. 7 in the USTFCCCA preseason poll, scored the perfect 15 points to easily win the men’s team competition ahead of host Stan State.

The next scheduled competition for Chico State is Western Washington’s Bill Roe Classic in Bellingham, Wash., on Sept. 28.
