Tournament MVP honors lead CPP’s Caitie Mueller to CCAA weekly honors

After leading the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos to a perfect opening weekend, Caitie Mueller has been selected as the CCAA Setter of the Week. 

Mueller helped guide the Broncos to four wins in the Yotes Classic Showcase, including three over top 20 teams, and was named the tournament MVP. Over the four matches, the senior from San Clemente, Calif., averaged 9.57 assists and 2.29 digs per set as her team won 12 of 14 sets. 

In the opening match against No. 10 St. Cloud State,  Mueller had 29 assists in a three-set sweep. She followed up later in the day with 38 assists in a four-set win over No. 12 Chaminade. She would add a season-best 39 assists in a 3-1 win over No. 19 Seattle Pacific. CPP was the only team out of the seven to walk away from the Coyote Classic undefeated.

Cal Poly Pomona will be on the road this week to play in the Central Washington Tournament on Sept. 12-14. They will face another ranked opponent in Central Washington (No. 22) and one receiving votes (Western Washington).
