Broncos’ Sarah Ybarra named CCAA Offensive Player of the Week

Cal Poly Pomona’s Sarah Ybarra has been voted the CCAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 2-8.

Ybarra led the No. 21 Broncos to a perfect 4-0 start, including three wins over top 20 teams at the the Yotes Classic Showcase. She recorded double-digit kills in each of the four matches, averaging 4.64 per set to total 65 on the weekend. The sophomore from La Habra, Calif., added 30 digs, 15 blocks, seven assists, and six service aces en route to being named to the all-tournament team. 

In the opening match against No. 10 St. Cloud State, Ybarra hit .400 with 13 kills, eight digs, and an ace in a three-set sweep. She followed up later in the day with 21 kills and a .409 hitting percentage in a four-set win over No. 12 Chaminade. Cal Poly Pomona closed the tournament with a 3-1 victory over No. 19 Seattle Pacific and a sweep of Biola to be the only team out of the seven to walk away from the Coyote Classic undefeated. 

Ybarra moved into a starting role this season. She ranks second in the CCAA in points (5.64) and kills (4.64) and fourth in blocks (1.07). Click here to see the complete CCAA leaderboard. 

Cal Poly Pomona will be on the road this week to play in the Central Washington Tournament on Sept. 12-14. They will face another ranked opponent in Central Washington (No. 22) and one receiving votes (Western Washington).
