Jun 3, 2024

Chico State's Marissa D'Atri has been selected by the conference coaches as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The distance runner from Martinez, Calif., put together an excellent senior season capped off by two All-American performances at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Championships.

On Friday night, D'Atri finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase before returning on Saturday and placing fifth in the 5,000-meter. It was her third consecutive All-American honor in the steeple and first in the 5k. She earned Chico State 10 points and a 23rd-place overall finish at nationals with those finishes.

At the CCAA Championships, D'Atri won both events she ran, taking her third straight title in both the 5k and the 3k steeple. Those 20 team points helped Chico State place second and extend its streak of top-three finishes to 22 consecutive seasons.

The Business Marketing major finishes the 2024 season ranked third in the CCAA in the 1,500m (4:27.65), second in the 5k (16:26.08), and first in the 3k steeple (10:08.68). Nationally, D'Atri was fifth in the 3k steeple and 22nd in the 5k.

D'Atri is the first Wildcat to earn CCAA Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year honors since Brooke Whitburn in 2016 and the fifth overall.
