CSUSB defends its home court to earn a spot in the CCAA Tournament title game

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - LeAndrew Knight scored 16 points, and Robby Robinson had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the No. 1 seed Cal State San Bernardino to a 74-67 win over No. 5 seed Cal State East Bay in the semifinal round of the 2024 CCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Knight and Robinson each played the entire 40 minutes as the Coyotes went only six student-athletes deep in its first tournament game. Knight was 8-of-13 from the field and added eight rebounds and two steals. Robinson posted four assists to accompany his 12th double-double of the season.
 
Three more Yotes reached double figures: Chris Mitchell scored 15 points, Jalen Flanagan 13, and Sedrick Altman 10. Evan Guillory had a team-high five assists.
 
Tyree Campbell's 18 points paced five Pioneers in double figures. Chris James and Grady Lewis each had 12 points, Dimitrios Klonaras scored 11, and Daeshawn Eaton posted 10. Klonaras led the team with eight rebounds. Lewis and Campbell each had seven.
 
The game was a game of runs. When one team would take a comfortable lead, the other team would storm back. CSUSB went on top 31-22 in the first half, only to see the Pioneers tie the game 35-35 at the half. The Coyotes went back in front by nine points at the 11-minute mark of the half (59-50).
 
A free throw by Campbell cut it to three (59-56) with 7:11 left. Campbell's layup two minutes later put CSUSB within two (62-60) with 4:21 on the clock. From that point, the Pioneers would go just 2-of-7 from the field the rest of the way while CSUSB hit all six of its free throw attempts to complete the victory.
 
After knocking down ten 3-pointers in its quarterfinal game, Cal State East Bay was held to just three in the semifinals.  
 
This was the third meeting of the season between Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Bernardino. CSUEB had won the two previous meetings.
 
Cal State San Bernardino will advance to the CCAA Tournament Championship game on Saturday, Mar. 9. CSUSB will face the No. 3 seed, Cal State LA.
