'Yotes Make it Back-to-Back West Region Titles

For the second straight season, Cal State San Bernardino is the NCAA Division II West Region champion and for the second straight season, the 'Yotes are headed to the Elite Eight after holding off upset-minded Azusa Pacific, 74-67.

Facing the eighth-seeded Cougars, CSUSB built a nine-point halftime lead and was able to hold on to the advantage the rest of the way to earn the seven-point victory. Cal State San Bernardino won the rebounding battle as well, 31-28, and limited the damage done on turnovers, allowing just five points off giveaways.

The 'Yotes were led by 25 points from tournament MVP Christopher Mitchell. Sedrick Altman added 15 points while Evan Guillory and Jalen Flanagan scored 10 points each.

While they know they are headed to Indiana, the Coyotes will have to wait to find out who their opponent will be as the NCAA will reseed the final eight teams following the conclusion of regional play on Tuesday. The Elite Eight is scheduled to begin on March 26.
